Hmmm, maybe there’s something to this Bing business after all.

This morning I needed a utility that I remembered hearing about. I couldn’t remember if I’d read about it, been told about it, dreamed about it, etc, nor could I remember the name, but I knew vaguely what it did. After a few frustrating minutes searching on google, trying different potential key words, trying to imagine how they might be pitching it, etc. Nothing.

In desperation, I tried Bing with the same set of keywords as my last attempt on Google. First 3 hits on the page all pointing to the right place.  So I went back to Google, tried the same keywords again, and the result I was looking for was on Page 4.

So, completely non-scientific test, shouldn’t read too much into it, but still, I may not be as sceptical about using Bing next time.

Has Social Media bridged the Chasm, or just got us to the edge faster?

“Trends aren’t transmitted hierarchically, as they used to be,” explains Martin Raymond, co-founder of The Future Laboratory, a trend forecasting company. “They’re now transmitted laterally and collaboratively via the internet. You once had a series of gatekeepers in the adoption of a trend: the innovator, the early adopter, the late adopter, the early mainstream, the late mainstream, and finally the conservative. But now it goes straight from the innovator to the mainstream.”

How far away are we from buying Mac desktop apps in the ITunes App Store?

I’ve been setting up a new Mac Mini, and after using the AppStore on my phone, actually having to download and install software manually for the Mac seems a little, well, archaic (yes, I know, that’s ridiculous, but it shows how quickly you become spoiled). How long will it be before it’s just all in the App Store? Hell, you can download a 2gb movie through ITunes, why not Parallels Desktop?
