Hmmm, maybe there’s something to this Bing business after all.

This morning I needed a utility that I remembered hearing about. I couldn’t remember if I’d read about it, been told about it, dreamed about it, etc, nor could I remember the name, but I knew vaguely what it did. After a few frustrating minutes searching on google, trying different potential key words, trying to imagine how they might be pitching it, etc. Nothing.

In desperation, I tried Bing with the same set of keywords as my last attempt on Google. First 3 hits on the page all pointing to the right place.  So I went back to Google, tried the same keywords again, and the result I was looking for was on Page 4.

So, completely non-scientific test, shouldn’t read too much into it, but still, I may not be as sceptical about using Bing next time.

  • Its interesting that Bing is returning much accurate result compared to google. May be I should do a comparison as well to see how my searches are treated by both bing and google.

  • Hi Samir,

Maybe. one example probably doesn’t make a clear case. It may just be that it more accurately lines up with my crappy way of trying to find things. Like I said though, it’s made me consider it more seriously.

  • Eh, good to know. Makes me think about trying it next time.
    Thanks Malcolm.

  • I’ve had better results at times as well. I do both now if I have trouble in either. I only really use Google by default because it’s become habit at this point. Bing is definitely better than Microsoft’s search engines used to be.

  • I would like to know how Microsoft has managed to hijack my IE4 on my WinME internet PC.

It frequently happens that I put totally valid web addresses into my IE 4 browser, only to land up on bing telling me this address is invalid and suggesting exactly the same address. No, everything is identical, I checked.

For the longest time I thought bing is some sort of virus.

But more importantly, how did Microsoft bing get onto my WinME IE4 browser?!?
